James powers Cavs in record rout of Celtics

He was Boston's leading scorer this postseason, entering Friday night's game averaging 29.8 points per game.

It was the biggest playoff win ever for the Cavaliers, who now have the luxury of hosting games three and four in Cleveland.

We could wax poetic about what this means for Boston (nothing good) or how this elevates the seemingly inevitable NBA Finals matchup between the Cavs and Warriors.

But the Cavaliers might simply be on another level than the rest of the East; they certainly seemed to show that on Friday night.

He finished with two points on 0-for-6 shooting, six assists, three rebounds and didn't play in the second half because of a right hip strain. That guy is a tough guy and he plays through a lot.

"It's hard to take", Al Horford said.

After Celtics coach Brad Stevens finished detailing the hip injury that leaves Isaiah Thomas questionable moving forward and after he tried to explain how his team had just endured the most lopsided loss by a No. 1 seed in National Basketball Association history, Stevens was asked where the Celtics go from here.

"I'm a guy who lives in the moment", James said, downplaying the performance.

"I think ultimately they were terrific, we were poor".

'We got our (butt) kicked.

The records also tumbled for the Celtics with the crushing loss the franchise's worst ever home playoff defeat.

But nothing silences a home playoff crowd more than a smothering defense.

"It was obviously just embarrassing", said Celtics guard Avery Bradley. "But to say that about a team that's 10-0 in the playoffs, about a team with the best player in the world?"

On Thursday, the All-NBA teams were announced, and amazingly only 99 of the 100 voters had James on the first team.

"You've got to give the award to different people every now and then", Lue said.

In the process of downshifting in the regular season, LeBron also cost himself the MVP award. I care about him off the floor.

James, who's won the award four times, still has a chance for a fourth National Basketball Association title - and second in a row.

San Antonio lost 113-111 without him, squandering a 20-point halftime lead, and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was peeved.

James had 22 points in the first half, when had six of his seven assists and all three of his blocked shots, including a chase-down rejection of Bradley that was reminiscent of the one against Andre Iguodala in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

That one was critical to clinching Cleveland's first championship since the Browns won the National Football League title in 1964.

"We just want to try to get better", James said.

James led the way, while Kevin Love chipped in with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Kyrie Irving got back on track with 23 points after shooting just 4-of-11 in Game 1. James played just 33 minutes - a low for this post-season and just the second time he played fewer than 40 in the 2017 playoffs.

Celtics: Stevens started Gerald Green in place of Amir Johnson. "Move" and he hit a pair of first-quarter 3-pointers.
