Jadhav's case should not be politicised: NA Speaker


It was India that had initiated the proceedings so as to be able to defend Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court last month.

Jadhav had been apprehended by Pakistani security forces on March 3, 2016 in Balochistan on charges of terrorism and spying.

"We have already made 16 applications for consular access to Pakistan and they are pending", said MEA spokesperson Gopal Baglay.

The ICJ ruling staying the execution of Jadhav "has caused shock and disappointment in Pakistan", a daily reported on Thursday. It added that Pakistan is determined to take the case to its "logical end" and that Jadhav "has ample time to petition for clemency".

"The court reaffirms that its orders under provisional measures are binding and create a legal obligation", up countries that are signatories to the Vienna Convention.

"The International community must put pressure on Pakistan".

India stated that Jadhav was kidnapped from Iran where he was involved in business activities after retiring from the Indian Navy.

President Judge Ronny Abraham, while delivering ICJ's interim verdict on the Jadhav death penalty case, rejected Pakistan's contention that the World Court has no jurisdiction on the matter.

Opposition in Punjab Assembly will agitate the issue of International Court of Justice's (ICJ) decision to stay the execution of Indian spy Kalbhoshan Jadhav in today's assembly session.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her stewardship of Kulbhushan Jadhav's case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.

Mr. Salve also said, India's fight for Jadhav rested on the argument of restitution which basically meant that the verdict of the Pakistani military court which found Jadhav guilty needed to be annulled and the trial started afresh.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi said Pakistan's charade has been shattered with the ICJ verdict.

"Urging the United Nations and the the global community to understand the double game of Pakistan, Mengal said", Pakistan is a hub of terrorism as it is producing Islamic terrorism for the entire world.

Rohatgi said that he hoped that the final verdict, which would be announced in August, would also be in India's favour.
