'Black Lightning' Trailer: Villains Are About to Get Lit Up

This seems an odd choice at a time when fans are beginning to tire of the CW universe and would likely respond very well to a much needed new face, especially as Black Lightning has existed in the comics as an active part of Superman and Supergirl's Metropolis. Still, Greg Berlanti - basically the Kevin Feige of DC's CW shows - co-created the series with Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, so don't be too surprised if Berlanti eventually figures out a way for Jefferson Pierce to meet up with Barry Allen, Oliver Queen, or Kara Zor-El a few years from now.

The network just released the trailers for Lucy Hale's new show Life Sentence, Cress Williams' DC series Black Lightning, the military drama Valor, and the highly-anticipated reboot of the 80s soap Dynasty.

Unfortunately, during the CW Upfronts, company president Mark Pedowitz told the crowd, "Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse". "It's a separate situation".

"We do not aim to do a five-way crossover.Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse".

Distancing Black Lightning will indeed allow the show to stand on its own two feet, but it could end up putting the series at a major disadvantage - the show definitely could have benefitted greatly from the powerhouse fanbase of its superheroic neighbors.

Finally, when his family is threatened, Black Lightning suits up again to battle the 100, a gang of arcane criminals that originated in Spain during the Middle Ages who literally feed on human suffering. Nine years ago, Pierce was gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, which he used to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn (Christine Adams), suffered.

Watch the trailer below. Pierce is already an experienced crime fighter with a violent past.
