Arsenal beat Chelsea to win record 13th FA Cup

Arsene Wenger said Arsenal's "spectacular" 2-1 FA Cup final victory over Chelsea was just reward for an outstanding display from his team at the end of a turbulent season.

The Arsenal board will meet on Tuesday, before taking their decision to Wenger. "Sometimes I think it could be tiredness and I don't think - and I repeat - if my player dived he did it with the real intention to do this".

If Arsene Wenger truly needs to convince the Arsenal board of his ongoing worth when they convene at Tuesday's meeting then his opening gambit will be unequivocal. Nobody has said, for sure, that he will do so.

And Wenger insists he drilled into his players that succeeding against Chelsea was more pertinent than what his own future holds. I love to build, I love to get people going and I love what I do. "This medal is from my one season in England in the final we finish with a defeat and I must be very proud to receive this and keep this medal".

Wenger was asked about the format of the meeting and whether he might have to make a presentation to the directors that outlined why they should persist with him.

"The best presentation is to watch the game", he said. "And there can be no doubt".

Wenger has come in for criticism from a number of Arsenal fans this season after the club failed to reach the Champions League for the first time in 19 years, with protests calling for the Frenchman to leave when his current deal expires next month. There has been persistent talk that he agreed, in principle, to the terms of it in December.

The defender missed the entirety of a dismal season from a Premier League and Champions League perspective and admitted he still does not what will happen. "Otherwise why put them in football?"

I try to serve this club with the same commitment and quality.

Again wearying of having to answer questions on an issue that remains undecided, Wenger did once more admit it should have been solved for the benefit of the team.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has no interest in a lucrative move to a Chinese club because it would jeopardise his chances of playing in next year's World Cup. So, for me, the contract does not have a special meaning.

The club captain, Per Mertesacker, one of the stars of the Wembley win, said of the manager: "He was happy but quiet after the game".

"We live in a society that wants always change", he said.

'There was great relief on Saturday night but it didn't feel as if it was the end.
