2 dead after tornadoes hit Oklahoma, Wisconsin

Barron County: One fatality, 25 injuries at the Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Park in Cameron. He described the scene as "total devastation" and they are still in a search pattern.

A mobile home is a particularly unsafe place to be during a tornado, according to the National Weather Service. National Weather Service meteorologist Tom Hultquist said the storms covered so much ground and were so powerful because of a combination of factors, including the dry Texas air that fed them and strong winds in the Great Lakes area.

The tornado near Chetek was the only one reported to the National Weather Service from Tuesday night's storms. Some people remain trapped in their homes. Meanwhile, southeast Minnesota is waterlogged after several more inches of rain overnight, and more rain and storms are due into Gopher State this (Wednesday) afternoon. The Storm Prediction Center, which specializes in forecasting and gathering data on tornadoes, says that high winds during a tornado can rip a mobile home without a foundation from its moorings.

Mark Tyson said the couple's truck was crushed and their Lincoln was tossed upside down, but somehow their motor home parked next to their trailer suffered minimal damage.

In addition to the touchdown near Chetek, Kriegl said, there was a second touchdown in Rusk County, Wis., near Conrath, a hamlet of fewer than 100 people.

Danny Ringer, spokesman for the city between Oklahoma City and Amarillo, Texas, said there were multiple injuries, but he didn't give a specific number.
